Want to make small talk with the President over a plate of Icelandic pancakes? Photo by Aimee Castenell.

Breakfast, they say, is the most important meal of the day, and now you have the opportunity to enjoy it with the most important person in Iceland – the President.

As the latest installment of the Inspired by Iceland campaign, President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson is extending an invitation to foreigners to come to his house where his wife will serve pancakes with cream and sugar, as well as some products from their greenhouse (nutrition, apparently, is very important to the First Lady). The video featuring the invitation (below) is part of a tourism campaign Iceland launched following the volcanic eruption last year, which left a cloud hanging over the country’s tourism industry (quite literally).

Other “invitations” feature the Mayor of Iceland’s capital, Reykjavic, offering to share in a meal of sushi; a farmer wanting to take you goose hunting; a stylist offering to take you shopping for the hottest Icelandic fashions; a musician willing to throw a concert in your hotel room and many more. What’s cool is that unlike most tourism campaigns which are purely advertorial, it seems you can actually take these people up on their offers. Just go to the campaign’s website, search the invitations by location or date and sign up! Pretty neat.
