1. I’ve noticed that whenever I have any kind of trip planned, it rarely hits me that I’m actually going on that trip until I’m on the plane, and sometimes not until I catch that first glimpse of my destination out of the airplane window. That first taste can really excite, intrigue or even surprise – I’ll never forget looking out the window as my plane flew into Switzerland, and remarking to my friend in an astonished voice how strikingly pointy the clouds were. Um, no… it turned out those were the Alps, capped in snow and sticking out above the clouds (in my defense, it had been a really long flight). Anyway, if you’re in the mood for a little armchair traveling, this post featuring 100 incredible views out of airplane windows will blow your mind.

2. When you’re flying alone, there’s always that moment of apprehension as you board the plane and wait to see who you’ve been seated next to. Will it be someone who smells, talks incessantly, spills over into your seat, or any number of other annoying characteristics you’ll have to put up with for the next five hours? Hopefully such problems will become a thing of the past thanks to a new matchmaking service KLM is working on. The carrier wants to implement a system that will give you access to fellow travelers’ facebook and linkedin profiles in advance, allowing you to choose who you want to sit next to.

3. Well this is one museum you won’t find anywhere else – the Museum of Broken Relationships in Zagreb, Croatia chronicles the lost loves of hundreds of unfortunate souls. The museum is basically a collection of objects donated by people who are trying to wipe the slate clean after a breakup, and houses everything from shoes to fake breasts and locks of hair.
